Students are expected to have a book to read in class every day. We will be going to the library once a week during class, however we urge you to take your children to the library as the Haycock library has a limited amount of titles.
Students will be starting their unit on media literacy. We will be looking at all different types of media and discussing what writers of advertisements believe or think, what writers of advertisements want people to believe to buy their product and what do the students believe about the message or product. We will be have class discussions as well as opportunities for writing.

Students are continuing to read non-fiction. Throughout the week students will be looking at writing mechanics and punctuation. Throughout the week students will be conferencing with the teacher.
Students are finishing up their class ABC book on “The Age of Exploration”. We are in the final stages of publishing. We look forward to sharing our books with our classmates. We are also finishing our work with narrative non-fiction. We will be starting a new unit in language arts next week. Students are expected to have 2 – 3 paragraphs that describe their word in depth, as well as a sentence or short poem that incudes their word. Students are putting the finishing touches on their personal narratives. We are exploring how to summarize text and use context clues to understand the meaning of unknown words.
We are finishing the final steps of writing our personal narratives. Students are typing their pieces and adding finishing touches. When pieces are finished they should be turned in on google classroom. We can't wait to share our pieces with younger students during writing celebration that will be held within the next couple weeks!
